The stretch from Colle dell’Assietta to the road junction with Colle delle Finestre has a fascinating ambiguous quality. On one side, it is a track on the south-eastern slope of the ridge with partly breath-taking scenery of both the landscape and the route design. On the other side, the gravel road is mostly very rough with dented mother rock in the middle of the track and loads of rocks on both sides - basically, it is rideable with all care taken to prevent seismic shakes and punctures.
The route becomes a bit less 'ridge style' and more like a 'standard' pass route. The somewhat bleak ridge is replaced by more colourful, variable mountains and slopes.
For the ascent from Finestre road, time budget is fairly close to normal if one can easily handle the stones, whereas the descent is very much time-consuming - except if one has a cycle made for 'hit the road and rock' jack style.
