In the northern French Alps, a notoriously difficult climb from either side, but an important through route. Not the best scenically, although the top is nice enough with very open views.
There is some dispute over the height - as you see the roadside sign claims 2000m, as does the Michelin map, and our altimeter has agreed with this on two separate occasions, but other authorities quote a height of 1984m.
