This little-known pass bypasses the city of Briancon, on the east side.
It is rough but easily rideable on the north side, which is not very scenic until the top.

This is the source of the Durance river, and the top of the climb can be a bit boggy.

At the top there are three dramatic old forts. The biggest one claims to be the highest fort in Europe. There's still quite a bit of military activity round here.

There's a fine ridge road which connects them, with good views north over the 'hidden' valley which lies to the north of Briancon.
