Col du Galibier
2647 metres

In the northern French Alps

One of the highest passes in the Alps, and perhaps the most beautiful of all the truly high passes, and an important through route to boot.

In this photo the actual pass is higher than you think - it's right up near the top right corner.

The summit tunnel has been recently reopened - that's near the building in the picture - making a lower summit height of 2556 metres. But this is not open to cyclists - it's little more than a concrete pipe through the mountain top.
