In the northern French Alps
Usually regarded as a necessary through route, or as a stepping-stone on the way to Galibier, this long but very easy pass is greatly underrated.
Don't miss the remarkable Alpine Garden
The surrounding scenery near the summit is quite superb, the wonderful peak of La Meije especially dramatic when approached from the east.
